First of all, I would like to congratulate the students/participants who are selected for the JENESYS-ASEAN region joint programme. You are very lucky sebab kamu ke sana nanti masa spring, in which kamu dapat liat cherry blossom! Whoa…:D
Now I want to share my experience during home stay programme...
I will list down what I think that you should and you shouldn’t do during your home stay ah…
DO’s:
1. Jaga kelakuan semasa berada di rumah foster family. Kalau buleh, jangan buat macam rumah sendiri…
2. If kamu makan or minum masa di rumah foster family, do help them to prepare food and lepas makan/minum, jangan lupa tolong bersihkan. Help them cuci piring and bersihkan meja…jangan camah mata. It’s not our culture tu ah…
3. Prepare yourself with all information about Brunei… Japanese people are very keen to know about Brunei in terms of geography, history… dan jua pasal sultan kitani, sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah…some of them inda tau di mana location Brunei ani, so maybe if durang tanya di mana location of Brunei ani, you may tell them that Brunei is located in the Borneo island, near Singapore…or if ada world map, show them where Brunei is…
4. This is also important, related to the 3rd point: beside pasal Brunei, jangan jua lupa pasal agama kitani, agama Islam… most famous question yang ditanya by the Japanese people, “why the girls wear scarf (tudung)?” so be prepare with your answer…
5. Jangan lupa bawakan some souvenir untuk your foster family…examples like pensel Brunei, key chain, postcard…you can get this from kedai Happy Star, di sana banyak berjual Brunei stuffs, sesuai untuk souvenir…you can also bawakan makanan traditional Brunei like kuih cincin, bahulu etc… kamu boleh jua bawa keropok yang alum bergoreng macam keropok udang, keropok ikan…then masa di sana, you can teach them cemana cara masak keropok atu… tudung jua boleh dibagi as souvenir. Show them how to wear it. Untuk perempuan la…
6. Bring photos of your family, your friends or school untuk tunjukkan durang about your life di Brunei…
DON’Ts:
1. Don’t wet the toilet floor. This is very very important! Di sana toilet and bathroom are separated. Tempat mandi (shower) buleh la basah but not arah toilet ok… and jua, toilet papernya jangan buang merata-rata, you can flush it dalam toilet atu…
2. Don’t wear shoes dalam rumah. Basically it’s the same la macam kitani di Brunei… but bila masuk dalam rumah, take off your shoes and put it nicely, pointing towards the door. Dan jua, pakai slipar provided by them bila berada di dalam rumah, except when you get into the room yang ada ‘Tatami’ mat. Do find out about ‘Tatami’ ani. Google it ;)
3. kalau boleh…jangan akhir bangun masa di rumah foster family. Bangun tah bila durang sudah bangun ok…
4. If durang kan bawa kamu berjalan, make sure kamu bersiap atu jangan lambat. Don’t let them waiting for you…
5. Don’t forget to give them your home address, e-mail address and phone number. Keep in touch with them. Japanese people are very friendly and inda rugi tu berhubung dengan durang eventhough kamu sudah balik ke Brunei… I’m very happy that I’m still keeping in touch with my foster families di sana… :)
6. Don’t hesitate to ask them apa yang kamu inda tau masa kamu stay di rumah durang… mana tau kamu inda tau how to use the toilet kah…apakah… don’t be afraid. Tanya saja…
I think atu saja about home stay ani…
I also would like to share my experience about workshop…three from each group will be given task to be facilitator, note-taker and presenter. Who knows kan nanti, you might be kena suruh jadi either facilitator, note-taker or presenter atu…
I experienced kena suruh jadi facilitator of the workshop. At first, I thought it was a simple job which I found it interesting jua since I never be a facilitator for a workshop. So masa awal-awal kna assign jadi facilitator, I accept and take it as challenge and new experience to me. This is good for you if kamu nada pengalaman mengendalikan sesuatu, so take it and learn. Mana tau, it might be useful for you in the future…masa kamu bekerja nanti…
Jadi facilitator ani, krajanya explaining to the group about the procedure of the workshop, membahagikan tugas-tugas to the rest of the member, brainstorming ideas and discuss sama-sama about your findings about what you have observe, experience and learn masa kamu di Japan. It’s like kamu yang mengetuai others in your discussion atu. Other group member jua mesti berikan kerjasama in this workshop ah…this time, teamwork is very important. In fact, masa kamu di sana pun, teamwork ani penting sekali. Kalau inda ada teamwork, apa saja yang kan kamu lakukan pun inda akan success tu… masa workshop atu, you won’t get help from your chaperons atau pun from the coordinators…kamu sendiri yang akan conduct the workshop, with the cooperation from other members…so that’s why teamwork ani penting.
So, what I’ve learned from the workshop is that it improve my presentation skills which is very useful for me as there’s a lot of presentation assignments yang kena bagi di skulah, so sedikit sebanyak, it helps me on how to present well in front of many people. Workshop ani jua taught us how to conduct a workshop without instructions or guidance from our chaperons and it was our own initiatives to accomplish by our own abilities and judgements, so sendiri-sendiri la tu ah… And jua, it gives you chance to express your own opinions.
I think that’s all from me…kalau ada apa-apa kan ditanya, jangan malu-malu…Tanya saja ok… :)
